The History of Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes as a brand was first marketed back in 1901, when a car was named the ‘Mercedes 35 hp’ after the daughter of automobile engineer Emil Jellinek. Jellinek was working with Gottlieb Daimler’s company, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG), and they went on to register ‘Mercedes’ as a protected trademark worldwide. Following a merger of Karl Benz’s and Gottlieb Daimler’s companies into Daimler-Benz in 1926, the first Mercedes-Benz brand name vehicles were produced.
